Michael at 2-months old

Do you ever get that feeling, after you’ve had a rough day with your baby, and a mom with 3+ kids walks by and has it all together? You know what I mean, like you should just keep your mouth shut about how hard you’ve had it.  Well it was no different seeing mom Angela in action with 2-month old baby Michael.  She came by for baby portraits in between dropping off her oldest daughter at school and her second daughter at ballet class, all while orchestrating nap and feeding times for the baby.  She also runs the Resurrection playgroup in Jersey City, which starts up again in the Fall. (Okay, I’m sure I won’t shut up any time soon about my Luke being an early waker, but still, at least I’ve been adequately shamed.)

Michael is just the sweetest cute little baby and just laid contently while I took his pictures. The only thing he was adamant about was not wanting to be in any sort of basket. The baby knows what he wants! Instead we had fun with cozy blankets, wooden letter blocks and this sweet knit hat from Smith & Chang. So adorable!

With sister Maddie. So sweet!

The Durham Family

I had the pleasure of doing a family photo shoot with Jaime, Brian and their beautiful kids over the weekend.  Honestly, you couldn’t ask for a more picture perfect family if you did a casting call. William (almost 4) and Alaina (2) were so adorable and somehow knew to be perfectly behaved when the camera was on them.

Jaime wanted the portraits to capture something quintessential to Jersey City, and Morris Canal Park was just the place.  It encapsulates some of the greatest perks of living here with the amazing views of the Manhattan skyline, a glistening Hudson River, and peeks of the Statue of Liberty.

And talk about super-mom! Jaime coordinated this family photo shoot with me in the midst of packing for a big move to Florida. Thank you for the amazing photo shoot Durham family! Wishing you all the best in your move!

Hayley & Charlotte – Sister Session

I met Hayley and Charlotte’s mom Gina through a good friend, and was so excited to learn about her new venture, Fun On The Run Bags based out of Hoboken. Gina rents out travel bags for kids that are stuffed with fun toys and games, which is such a great idea.  We are always traveling with our boys and end up spending so much money on new toys, cards and games for every trip in a desperate attempt to keep them occupied for 6+ hour flights and car rides. Anyway, fast forward and here I am taking Gina’s girls’ portraits.

Gina wanted to have the girls in their play clothes having fun so that we could capture their personalities in the way she enjoys them every day. And they are so sweet!  Hayley (turning 5 in a few weeks) reminded me of Hollywood glamour with her striking brown eyes and cheek bones, and Charlotte (2.5 years) has these huge blue eyes that are just amazing! To add some pops of color I had some flowers and paper lanterns on hand which they loved playing with. Such a fun shoot!

Evelyn & Olivia – Sister Session

Evelyn (5) and Olivia’s (3) session this week was all about being girly, which (because of the fact that I am surrounded by nothing but boys in my house all day, every day) was so ridiculously fun for me to shoot.  It was also the perfect opportunity to break out my deep red backdrop which looked so amazing with the girls in their adorable dresses and hair bows.  I made their initials out of printed floral patterns and even broke out a fan to put a little wind in their hair.  Ahh, so much girly fun. Love it!

Baby Thor & His Boston Terriers

I don’t know what gets better than a baby with his dogs! Cuteness. Overload. Here baby Thor (6-months) shows off his Boston Terriers, Franklin (9 years, the wise one) & Drake (the hyper brother who is possibly 100…or a vampire, as his mom says, since apparently it was out of nowhere that he showed up on an empty road five years ago when they took him home, and he has not slowed down or aged one bit).   We love their parents Abigail & Erik who just spent a 6-month stint in Jersey City in a little palace overlooking the Statue of Liberty.  We’re hoping they and their boys find their way back to us again.  For now, we’ll have to stare longingly at these pictures. *sigh*

Franklin’s most adorable trait, “clamping” – aka. biting down and clasping his blankie.

Oh what’s that you say? You want a treat? This delicious treat? This treat right here going into my mouth?

All the boys.

Franklin definitely deserves a comment bubble on the series below…

You know it’s love when your dog is terrorized by the new mini-human in the house…

…but still stands guard for him just the same.

Caren & Sam’s Family Portrait Session

I was so flattered to be asked to do Caren & Sam’s family portraits since Sam is a really talented photographer himself. No pressure! When they showed up for the shoot, I couldn’t get over how handsome their boys Chris and Carson looked in their little matching polo shirts! The big trick for this shoot was trying to get Carson to crack a smile.  I was pulling out jokes left and right and even at one point was saying “stinky duck butt”. I know, I know, really professional. Well, Chris was cracking up, but Carson kept looking at me like I was yesterday’s news. Finally, challenging the boys to a silly face competition and heading to Hamilton Park for a race did the trick.  Sometimes, boys will be boys!

There’s the smile I was looking for!

So handsome.

Jamie 15-month Portraits

I had so much fun shooting Jamie for his 15-month portraits – and how could I not? He has these massive blue eyes, a glorious head full of curls, and a huge smile that he’s not shy about showing off.  Jamie is about the same age as my youngest, so I had a good idea what I was in for…a lot of crawling and wiggles! But it turns out, all he needed was some interesting reading material and we were good to go. 🙂

Jamie’s mom Sarah is also one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. If you are involved with the JC Moms, you may have seen her hosting a Meetup playdate or two.
For this shot, I used a removable wall decal for the background and basic arts and crafts letters.

Storytime with Jamie.  Chaucer and Mark Twain anyone?

Who can resist this smile?

Looking forward to seeing Sarah and that adorable Jamie more around the neighborhood!
