My love for portrait photography is inspired by the joy we’ve had bringing two beautiful boys into the world. They both weighed in at just under 10 pounds when they were born, and to this day, they continue to expand my boundaries in every way! Becoming a mother was, and continues to be, the most joyful and profound experience imaginable. My boys, all the babies I’ve had the joy of photographing over the years, and a cadre of godchildren, nieces & nephews inspire me daily with their perfect and playful existence. They give me a deep love of photographing babies & children as the story of their lives unfold.
My background: Somewhere in between giving birth to my boys, I got my M.A. in Media Studies at The New School. Grad school was meant to expand on the tv production background that took me from my hometown of Seattle to New York City, but I found myself following my passion for photography at every turn. Somewhere along the way, I became photography-obsessed, could only see the world in terms of light and didn’t want my camera missing any of it. I also didn’t want to miss a moment of my boys growing up. And with that, my love of portrait photography was born.
Today, nothing makes me happier than capturing natural moments that become unique and contemporary pieces of art for the home.
I’m the lucky guy who married Ingrid and here we are – two kids, two dogs, two coasts, and one photography studio later. Before this, I was part of the startup team that created Animoto.com, a video creation tool for photographers and the everyday photo-obsessed.
When I’m not managing the studio, you’ll see me shooting portraits, capturing behind-the-scenes footage at our studio and working with families to design just the right displays for their home. You can come to me with any questions you have about what it’s like to have a custom portrait experience with our studio – or anything related to Seahawks football and how awesome they are.
What our families are saying:
“We have had Ingrid capture both our children’s first few days in this world, and the moments captured were priceless. Ingrid is so talented and so kind, it shows in everything she does, from the moment when you first walk into her space to the finished product in hand. The love that Ingrid and Nate illuminate as humans beings carries through in their work, leaving you with so many moments of joy, laughter, warmth, and love. We are forever grateful to have these everlasting pictures and look forward to having them capture more fun filled moments with our family in the future.” – Julie, mom to Ellee & Hudson
“Our experience with Ingrid and Nate was simply awesome. It felt as if they had all the patience in the world with the sessions. Ingrid offered all the help getting ready for the shoot and took tons of time during the sessions to take the ‘right’ pictures. She had that attention to detail, which I have found missing with other studios. Especially with the baby session, she made the room absolutely comfortable for the baby. We ordered large sized canvas prints and the pictures came back with an awesome finish and just the way we wanted them to be. I would say that the personal touch made all the difference. We researched about 4-5 studios before deciding on Ingrid K. Studio, and I am certain that we didn’t make any mistake.” The Kohad Family
“Ingrid is not only a very talented photographer but also very patient and accommodating. We are so thankful for Ingrid capturing our children; we will treasure these pictures forever!”
Marion, mom to Maxim & Estelle
“The pics were amazing! She really captured Maya’s personality and now we finally have some beautiful shots of her. Ingrid is also very laid back and fun to work with. I would recommend her again and again!” – Liz, mom to 1 year-old Maya, via Jersey City Moms Meetup.
“It’s thrilling to have photographs that capture different aspects of my daughters’ personalities – their goofiness, sweetness, and energy. She got so many great shots (I don’t know how I’m going to choose!) and they had so much fun doing it. It was my first time ever getting my kids photographed and both they and I had a blast so I highly recommend her.” – Gina, mom to Hayley (4) & Charlotte (2), via Hoboken Moms
“Ingrid, these are AMAZING!! Thank you so much!! We really had a blast and what you’ve posted came out even better than I imagined!! (I can’t remember the last time I used so many exclamation points!) Even [my husband], who usually cringes at the idea of posing for a photo, enjoyed himself and we all are looking forward to the album. I have to compliment the photographer. There’s something about you that makes it easy to sit for a photo and feel absolutely at ease.” – Evita, mom to Leora (2)
